Dr John Dowsett
Dr John Dowsett is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who completed his medical degree at Sydney University with first class honours before commencing Specialist Physician and Advanced Gastroenterology training at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. He completed his Gastroenterology training in Interventional Endoscopy, particularly ERCP and EUS, as the Cancer Research Campaign Fellow in Gastroenterology at University College London incorporating work at Middlesex Hospital in London and London Hospital at Whitechapel. Concurrently, he developed a research interest in HIV medicine, particularly with reference to the liver and biliary tree.
After completing his fellowship, Dr Dowsett returned to Sydney Australia as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Royal North Shore Hospital but over time, elected to transfer to Gosford Hospital on the Central Coast for family/lifestyle reasons where he established the present Practice, welcoming a series of outstanding Physicians/Gastroenterologist/Surgeons sharing resources with them over the years. All along he has maintained an interest in research and teaching and has more than 80 publications in major journals including The Lancet, Gastroenterology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, GUT and The British Medical Journal. He was a lead author in a randomised study of biliary dyskinesia in Adelaide and Sydney. He has authored a chapter on pancreatic cancer in The Oxford Textbook of Medicine.
At present, he offers general Gastroenterology and Hepatology services to the Central Coast and also Pillcam testing of the small intestine. He welcomes Dr Emily He and Dr James Pang to Central Coast Endoscopy and Gastroenterology with the aim of providing timely, thorough, affordable and reliable Gastroenterology and Hepatology services to the Central Coast with access to Gosford and Wyong Hospitals and Gosford Private Hospital, Brisbane Waters Private Hospital and Tuggerah Lakes Private Hospital.
